The Edo State Police Command apprehended a suspected internet fraudster, Victor Ifakachukwu, on charges of allegedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend in Benin City.
The incident unfolded at 10, Osahon Street, Ogheghe Quarters, located off Sapele Road, Benin. On Monday, August 21, 2023, the landlord of the suspect, Emmanuel Momoh, alerted the police regarding the occurrence.
During the altercation, the couple barricaded themselves within their residence. Subsequently, he was admitted to a medical facility for treatment.
SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, verified the occurrence to the Nigerian Tribune. He affirmed that a thorough investigation is underway. Notably, the investigation uncovered two knives smeared with blood, along with a laptop, two iPhones, and a Nokia phone, all recovered from the suspect's abode.
The suspect's condition is being vigilantly monitored at an undisclosed hospital, with authorities awaiting his recovery to hold him accountable for the alleged crime once he regains consciousness.
He said, “When we arrived at the house, Omo, blood was flowing like water, I believe they started stabbing themselves when a quarrel erupted between them.
“I suspect something went wrong and the girl fought back with her last power. When the boy regains consciousness, he will tell us how many of them were in the house and what actually happened.”
In the meantime, certain security personnel who participated in the removal of the girl's body confirmed that no body parts were absent from the deceased.
