In a related development, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued an order to Chevron Nigeria Limited to adhere to the legal protocols outlined in the Petroleum Industry Act for establishing the Host Communities Development Trust Fund Board in Warri South, Delta State.
This regulatory intervention by NUPRC comes in response to a dispute between Chevron and the Ugbororo, Ugbegugun, and Denbele communities concerning the composition and nomenclature of the trust fund. The directives issued by NUPRC, following a meeting between the conflicting parties and NUPRC’s Chief Executive, Engr Gbenga Komolafe, in Abuja, were conveyed in a press release from the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs & Communication Unit, Olaide Shonola.
