Benue State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde, has responded to growing public concern regarding the alleged locking of gates at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Makurdi. Speaking to clarify the events, Commissioner Kunde stressed that the action was taken to ensure the integrity of an ongoing verification exercise aimed at authenticating IDP status.

According to Kunde, the temporary gate closure was implemented as part of a necessary process to properly identify genuine IDPs and prevent the infiltration of unverified individuals seeking to exploit humanitarian assistance. The commissioner noted that this measure is crucial for resource allocation, ensuring that aid reaches those most in need.

Addressing widespread rumors, Kunde firmly denied reports suggesting that a chef at the camp had been assaulted during the process. He reassured the public that the safety and dignity of both staff and displaced individuals remain a top priority for the ministry.
