Tony Elumelu Speaks On Becoming The CBN Governor

The Chairman of UBA Group and Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has refuted rumors suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is considering him as the substantive governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This comes in response to a statement made by a supporter of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Imran Muhammad, on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), where he claimed that "President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN governor."

Elumelu categorically denied this news in his reply on Friday, stating, "LOL. No, please. This is false news!" The prominent banker discredited reports of his potential appointment as CBN governor shortly after his visit to Tinubu at Aso Villa, Abuja.

Regarding the purpose of his visit, Elumelu mentioned that his discussion with Tinubu was held in private. However, he expressed his support for the government's policies and the positive impact they have on leaders in the private sector.

He commented, "The private sector is encouraged by the bold decisions of President Bola Tinubu, and we hope that in due time, Nigerians will reap the benefits.

"Our focus is on the Nigerian people, particularly the youth and ensuring the empowerment of women. It is about providing employment opportunities for our youth, and I believe Mr. President has these priorities in mind."
