Governor Adeleke Warns Traditional Rulers: Maintain Peace or Face Consequences

Osun Communities on High Alert as Governor Issues Strong Warning

Governor Ademola Adeleke has sent a clear message to the traditional rulers of Ifon, Erin Osun, and Ilobu—any further unrest in their communities will have serious consequences. His warning comes amid reports that certain unidentified groups may be plotting fresh attacks in these areas, despite ongoing peace efforts.

During the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, intelligence reports surfaced, indicating that some elements within these communities were gearing up for another round of violence. Governor Adeleke, in a statement released by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, assured residents that security forces have heightened surveillance to prevent any disturbances.

“Security agencies are already intensifying their investigations, questioning key figures linked to the ongoing conflict. Let me be clear—any leader who signed a peace agreement must take it seriously. This is not a symbolic gesture; they will be held accountable,” the governor stated.

Governor Adeleke also reminded community leaders that the recent relaxation of curfew was a goodwill gesture to ease the suffering of innocent residents. However, he made it clear that any attempt to exploit this leniency to reignite violence would lead to the immediate reinstatement of a full 24-hour curfew.

“We eased the curfew out of compassion because we know many law-abiding citizens are struggling due to the actions of a few troublemakers. But if this adjustment is abused, we will not hesitate to restore the strictest measures,” he cautioned.

Perhaps the most significant part of Governor Adeleke’s warning was directed at the royal fathers of the affected towns. He made it clear that if violence erupts again under their watch, they risk being removed from office.

“I expect traditional rulers to take full responsibility for their domains. They must ensure their subjects do not incite or engage in conflict. If violence continues, I will have no choice but to act decisively. Enough is enough,” he declared.

As security agencies ramp up operations and local leaders face increased scrutiny, the coming days will be critical in determining whether peace can be sustained. The state government has made its stance clear: there will be no tolerance for further disruptions.

For now, all eyes are on the traditional rulers and community stakeholders, who must ensure calm prevails—or face the full weight of the law.
