In a political move that’s already reshaping the Anambra 2025 narrative, Nicholas Ukachukwu has officially emerged as the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The primary election, which spanned the weekend and wrapped up on Sunday, was nothing short of decisive.
Announced by Senator Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross River State and head of the APC Electoral Committee, the final tally revealed a commanding lead for Ukachukwu. He pulled in 1,455 votes, leaving his closest competitor, Valentine Ozigbo, trailing far behind with 67 votes. Other contenders, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu, managed 26 and 8 votes respectively, while 26 votes were declared invalid.
Speaking shortly after his victory was confirmed, Ukachukwu expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fostering what he described as a “peaceful and transparent” election process within the party. He also extended gratitude to the APC National Working Committee, Senator Otu’s team, fellow aspirants, and the delegates who made the election a success.
In a heartfelt message that struck a chord with party loyalists, Ukachukwu urged his fellow contenders to join forces, emphasizing unity over rivalry.
“Now is the time to come together. Our mission is bigger than any one of us — it’s about securing Anambra for the APC,” he said passionately.
Ukachukwu’s name isn’t new in Anambra’s political circles. For years, he’s been a behind-the-scenes power broker, playing pivotal roles in the rise of past state governors. But now, the man often described as a “political godfather” is stepping into the arena himself.
“I’ve helped others rise. It’s time to father my own journey,” he added with conviction.
With the APC ticket firmly in hand, Ukachukwu is set to square off against incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and George Moghalu, representing the Labour Party. The governorship election, slated for November 8, 2025, promises to be a gripping three-horse race.
Ukachukwu has promised not to let the trust of APC members and Anambra citizens go to waste, pledging transparency, development, and a new chapter of governance if elected.
Ukachukwu’s emergence isn’t just about one man's ambition — it signals a potential shift in Anambra’s political alignment. With voter sentiment increasingly leaning toward accountability and grassroots impact, candidates will need more than party support to win hearts.
