In a bold and coordinated offensive against oil theft and environmental degradation, the Nigerian Navy has dismantled eight illegal crude oil refining sites in Delta State. The successful operation was executed by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos and resulted in the confiscation of thousands of litres of stolen crude and illegally refined petroleum products.
Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, Commanding Officer of FOB Escravos, confirmed the development and emphasized the Navy’s continued commitment to eradicating illegal refining operations across the Niger Delta. According to him, the operation is a critical step in countering the economic sabotage posed by oil theft and curbing the environmental hazards that accompany these illicit activities.
Illegal refining and oil bunkering have long plagued the Niger Delta, contributing to significant revenue losses for the Nigerian government and widespread environmental destruction.
